Fishing Report April 16th 2025
Jack with a big Muskegon River chromer!
Fishing on the Muskegon has been steady. There is a mix bag of older and fresh fish in the system. We have been catching a couple drop-backs each day as well. I suspect we will have steelhead in the river through the first or second week of May, which is pretty typical for the Muskegon. Are water is holding a light stain to it. We could use another shot of rain as our water levels are dropping a little bit each day. We should see steelhead coming and going for the next couple weeks, with trout fishing picking up.
Eggs in the standard shades of natural orange and various light yellows have had their days. Salmon fry patterns are working well and giving us some hard bites when the egg bite is slow. Stone fly’s have been out on the warmer afternoons, giving us a few dry fly opportunities for trout.
The steelhead calendar is completely full but its never too late to start thinking trout dates in May through June! Swinging wet flies, stripping streamers and waiting for the evening hatch is just around the corner!
Hope everyone has a safe and fishy week!
