Fishing Report March 17th 2025
Jay with a lucky chrome hen on St. Patrick’s Day
Fishing has been steady on the Muskegon with a mix of fresh and winter holdover steelhead. We have experienced summer like weather with temps in the low 70s and nasty cold fronts with temps plummeting down to the low 30s all in a 24 hour period this past week. Water levels are in good shape and it looks like a bit more rain is in the forecast this week, which should keep fishing consistent for the coming days.
Eggs in various shades of orange and yellow have been consistent for us. Stone flies have made their appearance and you can see a few fluttering along on the warmer afternoons. Steelhead have taken full advantage of them while catching a few that have regurgitated a mouth-full of them. Still no sign of any rising trout, but it wont be long once water temps get into the low 40s.
If your looking to get out and enjoy the river I still have April 21st, 23rd, May 6th and 10th available for steelhead fishing. Its never too late to start thinking trout dates in May through June! Swinging wet flies, stripping streamers and waiting for the evening hatch is just around the corner!
Hope everyone has a safe and fishy week!
