Fishing Report August 5th 2024

Charlie with a great Muskegon River smallmouth that took a small streamer.

We are definitely in the dog days of summer. Smallmouth fishing on the Muskegon has been steady with its ups and downs. With last weeks heat wave, the fishing had some sluggish days early in the week, but rebounded towards the end of the week a steady bite. Fishing Poppers or other topwater baits in the mornings have been having their moments. Poppers in blue, chartreuse and black have been productive. When the topwater bite slows, switching over to streamers or other subsurface baits have been the ticket. Small streamers in white, olive and yellow with a little bit of flash have been working well. I still have a couple days available in the month of August if you still want to get in on some smallmouth fishing before we shift gears to our fall fishing at the end of the month!

Its hard to believe we are a month out from our fall salmon and steelhead season. Ill be posting a fall preview shortly for what’s to come. I am definitely looking forward to cooler days with big kings and chrome steelhead on the end of the line!
