Ross with a great brown trout from the muskegon river fly fishing in newaygo michigan

Ross from Oregon with a great brown trout on wet fly.

Its Transition time on the Muskegon. With the current heat wave and water temps on the rise we will start to shift are focus from trout fishing to smallmouth bass fishing. Trout fishing is still holding on with swinging wet flies as our main technique. Most of our mayfly hatches have come to an end with just a few iso’s, sulphurs and caddis about. Pheasant tail soft hackles tied in a variety of colors, caddis pupa and small gnat soft hackles have getting the most attention on the trout front. Bass fishing is heating up with topwater baits working well in the morning hours with streamers representing small baitfish and crayfish in white, yellow and rust colors have been the most attention.

I still have a few dates available in July and August for smallmouth fishing if your interested in getting on the water. It would be a pleasure to have you aboard. See you on the river! - Capt. Ross
